Vocal Performances

Juliana was able to participate in several vocal performances this spring.  She participated for the first time in the Illinois Music Association's annual competition.  She competed in Broadway vocal solo with other talented kiddos around her age.  She had a great performance, singing "The Girl I Mean to Be" from The Secret Garden and earned 2nd/3rd place.  The reason I say both is that the judges made some mistake and realized as they were handing out the awards.  They awarded a girl 3rd place.  Then they realized they still had 3 soloists left.  Juliana's score sheet originally was marked 2nd place. This was crossed out (?!!!!!) and she tied for 3rd.  Weird.  In my opinion, she deserved 2nd, but I think the rules of the contest said in rare occurrences, there could be a tie for 3rd place.  She was thrilled either way!  It was a great honor and we are so proud of her.

Juliana also got to sing with her school choir and all the other elementary schools that feed into her middle school in a joint concert at the district Fine Arts Festival. It was a great large group!

Her voice studio also had a spring recital where she sang "Journey to the Past" from Anastasia.

As a fundraiser for our summer stage production of The Little Mermaid, we held a cabaret.  Juliana auditioned with her "Journey to the Past" song as a solo and then also with two other friends singing "A Million Dreams" from The Greatest Showman movie.  They all did great, but unfortunately it didn't always sound that way due to an inexperienced accompanist who had trouble playing the right tempos, notes and in the right key!  She was super nervous about it (a rare occurrence for her!) and it threw her off quite a bit.  Still, she received thunderous applause from the older kids who love her!  After her audition, the assistant director came up and said she's headed to Broadway and she needs an agent (then he volunteered himself!).
